Improving Everyday Life With Boxing

OUR MISSION

Building a Sustainable Future from the Strongest Foundations...

There have been many boxing legends who have both coached and trained at Phoenix over the years and our apprenticeship programme takes the most talented young fighters and sponsors them through their training to create a legacy of future coaches for our club and for the sport more widely.

Undertaking their England Boxing coaching certificates can also enable fighters to better understand strategy, help their fellow fighters develop and support the current coaches to deliver and maintain the highest standards which have become synonymous with Phoenix ABC.

OUR HISTORY

Where we Started...

Phoenix has a long and esteemed history in the city of Nottingham and has developed a reputation for both coach and boxer excellence resulting in many regional, national, commonwealth, European and World titles.

Founded in 1963 on the Phoenix Farm Estate by Mr. William Wallage, Phoenix ABC is an affiliated member of England Boxing, which is the Sport England recognised governing body for Olympic style boxing.

ABOUT PHOENIX

Where we are Now?..

Phoenix is dedicated to promoting the skills and values of amateur boxing by providing quality training for all members from the age of 9 upwards and competitive opportunities at England Boxing sanctioned events between the ages of 10 and 40.

We are committed to providing consistent, high-quality standards for all members in relation to effective administration and safety/welfare which is implemented in-line with various England Boxing & Phoenix ABC rules, regulations, policies and procedures on display at the club.

Pugilism, which, in recent times has developed into the more civilised artform we know today as boxing, was once known as the sport of gentlemen because of it's focus upon discipline, sportsmanship and respect. Nowadays, however, this description wouldn't be wholly correct.

Whilst it's teachings remain the same, the sport has become incredibly popular among young girls and women who are also using it as a means to stay fit, burn excess energy, learn new skills and compete for the same, but equivalent, titles contested in the men's sport.

Throughout the years, the club has produced many champions at Divisional, Regional, and National levels.  Our two most notable champions, who both went on to achieve professional greatness, are:

  • the former WBC, IBF & WBA Super Middleweight World Champion, Carl Froch MBE

  • the current World No.1 featherweight and 2x WBA World Champion, Leigh Wood.

We greatly value the continued support of our members, many whom we hope will go on to become champions themselves.  We are always be happy to answer any questions you may have about our club or amateur boxing.

All coaches and members of the management team are:

  • affiliated to - and insured with - England Boxing

  • qualified in coaching with England Boxing (equivalent to an NVQ)

  • DBS cleared at enhanced level with England Boxing

  • qualified in First Aid

  • trained in an England Boxing approved Safeguarding workshop
